| Vapor Barrier Fabrics Rain suits or wind suits, which are generally present in every camper's pack anyway, can be worn inside a sleeping bag as makeshift VB bags. For an extra-warm VB and radiant-heat reflector combination, you can use an aluminized Mylar sheet between the hammock and the Pea Pod Sleeping Bag. The Mylar sheet, such as one of the popular light-weight emergency or survival blankets available at most outdoor specialty stores, simply rests inside the sleeping bag ,.~-here it blocks bottom air flow and keeps body moisture from getting into that portion of the bag's insulation that is beneath you. Note however, that although adding great warmth, r-iese VB sheets can result in excessive condensation of ,Dody moisture inside the hammock, which may wet the hammock fabric, you, and that portion of the sleeping bag over the top of you. Use of a VB sheet in this manner may only be appropriate in extreme drying conditions such as cool, windy, low-humidity weather since cold or high-humidity weather will almost surely cause excessive condensation. However, the proper use of VB sheets can greatly add warmth with very little increase in weight. Be sure to experiment at home before challenging the wilderness. Any
waterproof sheet, such as the ground sheet usually carried in the pack
anyway for those times when the hammock is used as a bivy sack on the
ground, can be substituted for the reflective Mylar sheet described above.
Although slightly less efficient, a lightweight plastic ground sheet works
well in certain conditions when used between the Pea Pod Sleeping Bag
and the hanging hammock.
