Our Hammocks provide the maximum relaxation,so let the fine swinging motion and everlasting floating midair begin
The
biggest possible weight-savings may come from
using lighter than recommended bottom fabrics.
Caution: This may not work for everyone.
I
have successfully tested a lightweight hammock
(made from 1.9 oz/yd2 ripstop with overhand end
knots and I"-wide polypropylene straps) to
170 pounds for months at a time and briefly to
375 pounds. But, since my brief test may not be
adequate for extended use, i suggest stronger
fabrics and straps for anyone over 250 pounds.
Only
you can determine if this approach is safe for
you; however the fabrics recommended in this websection
are stronger than they appear and you might want
to try several different ones. Of course, you
should experiment and thoroughly test such a hammock
until you are satisfied with its safety, before
heading to the backcountry.
For users less than six feet tall, the hammock
can be shortened and the rain canopy can be downsized
to seven-by-nine feet with no significant decrease
in performance.
Your actual weight savings will, of course, depend
on which hammock fabric you choose and which of
the above weight-saving possibilities you follow.
Weight
savings however, up to 30% are possible! Good
luck and let me know how your hammock works.
