Tree Knots
e) Fourth Wrap: Now make the fourth wrap completely
around the tree going in the same direction as
the third wrap. Note: If sufficient strap is available,
additional wraps can be beneficial, especially
if the support is less than four inches in diameter.
fl To complete the knot, pass the bitter end between
the last wrap and the tree in such a way that
the last wrap tightens against the strap of the
bitter end and holds it tightly to the tree. Keeping
all of the wraps flat against the tree, without
any twists in the strap, ensures better gripping
power of the knot.
Notice
that there is really nothing to untie since the
straps press flat against the tree and each other.
To mdo, simply unwrap the straps. The idea is
that the flat A-ebbing wraps distribute the strain
over a large area and -ighten against the tree,
with the last wrap securing the bitter end against
the tree. When loaded, the flat webbing Straps
do not "roll" down the tree, thereby
eliminating the bruises and scars to the bark
of young trees commonly -aused by the round ropes
used on many hammocks.

Modifications of this multi-wrap knot can be used
if 'here is insufficient strap length. Just remember,
the nore wraps the better the knot works. If you
are forced :o tie a tight knot in the strap itself,
remember it will tighten greatly when loaded and
may be impossible to U ntie Prevent this by inserting
a stick or a large fold of ?he loose end of the
strap into the knot before adding -our weight
to the hammock.
