Our Hammocks provide the maximum relaxation,so let the fine swinging motion and everlasting floating midair begin
Stand-up
Shelter
Only
after the hammock was hung beneath the canopy
did I remove my rain gear and finish making camp.
In this manner, my gear was not exposed to the
rain while I was setting up camp! Breaking camp
in the rain is simply the reverse; the pack is
loaded and rain gear donned before the canopy
is taken down. All of this is done standing up!
Anyone who has ever experienced making or breaking
camp in the rain with a small tent or tarp on
the ground can easily appreciate the simplicity
and convenience of my hammock system!
Once
I was forced off a high mountain ridge by an unexpected
violent thunderstorm. The storm hit fast and the
lightning was intense. I immediately took refuge
by descending the rugged side of the ridge. Upon
reaching a safe distance below the top, I set
up my canopy and hammock to wait out the storm.
The slope was extremely steep, but suitable trees
were easily found. However, it was the next day
before the storm abated and I could safely return
to the summit and continue on my way. Without
the hammock, I would have had to hike many miles
on the exposed ridge during the storm in order
to find a suitable camping spot. With the hammock,
I was able to quickly find protection and actually
enjoyed the storm while safely out of harm's way.
On
another occasion, I set up my hammock close to
the ground during an evening rainstorm and was
able to cook dinner while lying down! Yes, I can
be lazy. And why not? We're supposed to enjoy
the wilderness, right?
When
necessary, the rain canopy can be lowered as much
as needed for complete protection from the elements
(see following photographs).
