Rain
The
large rain canopy provides ample protection and
makes an unbeatable stand-up shelter for gentle
rainy weather. There is plenty of room under the
canopy for the hammock as well as for me. Being
able to stand while doing camp chores such as
changing clothes, loading/ unloading the pack,
or cooking dinner is a definite benefit not found
in similar-weight tents.

The
large canopy also facilitates making and breaking
camp in the rain. On a long rainy day recently
in Maine, I stopped to make camp several hours
after dark. It was still raining hard and there
had been nothing but rocks, trees and mud for
miles. I found a ,Deautiful spot beside a large
lake; boulders covered the ;round and no one had
ever camped there before (and robably never will
again). The rain canopy went up first. Since it
was carried in an outside pocket, there was no
need to open the pack and expose its contents
to the pouring rain. Moments later I had a large
protected z5helter under which I then opened the
pack and extracted the hammock.
